Converting to a Gas Burning Fireplace
Throughout the chilly winter months, millions of homeowners enjoy the warmth and ambiance of a crackling fire. But since wood-burning fireplaces waste most of the heat they generate, many homeowners are looking for a more energy-efficient heating solution without losing that authentic fire burning experience.
Gas Fireplace Benefits
Fireplace inserts are a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to convert a traditional wood-burning fireplace into a clean-burning gas fireplace. Fireplace inserts provide a brand-new fire burning experience without the cost of a conventional fireplace renovation. They are also more energy-efficient too. A wood-burning fireplace loses as much as 90 percent of heat through the chimney.
On the other hand, gas fireplaces retain up to 90 percent of the heat it generates. Plus, gas fireplaces are more convenient too. Just flip the switch and set the desired temperature and enjoy continuous warmth with an authentic flame experience.
Chimney Inspection and Cleaning
Gas fireplace inserts use the existing fireplace and chimney infrastructure. Since the gas fumes will be vented through the chimney, the first step is to have a Certified Chimney Sweep® do a chimney inspection to assess its condition. It is a crucial step because you will want to make any necessary masonry repairs, so carbon monoxide doesn’t leak into your living space. If the chimney is dirty, cleaning will be required before installing the fireplace insert. The good news is this will be the last time your chimney will need a major cleaning. Gas fireplaces burn cleaner with no soot and much less creosote. You will still require chimney cleaning. But you will need them less often. The technician will also measure your fireplace to install the right size insert.
There are two ways to get gas to your fireplace: an underground gas line that will connect to your residence. Or a stand-alone propane tank. If you have gas service in your community, your gas company will bring the gas line to your home. Our technicians will connect to the line during the installation.

Choosing Vented Vs. Going Ventless
There are two types of gas fireplace inserts – vented and ventless.
Vented inserts: These are the preferred choice because they direct gas fumes through the chimney or vent just like a traditional fireplace or wood stove.
Ventless inserts: These models are self-containing units that don’t require a chimney or vent for operation. Homeowners should use caution when operating ventless gas heating appliances to avoid exposure to carbon monoxide.
We also have a large assortment of ceramic logs for your fireplace inserts. Ceramic logs do more than help retain the heat inside the fireplace. They also create the perfect ambiance for your living space even when you’re not using the fireplace.
The only thing left to do is relax and enjoy the warmth of your new energy-efficient gas fireplace.
